Downeast Maine refers to the state’s spectacularly rugged easternmost coast, a region defined by its granite-bound shores, dense spruce forests, and dramatic tides. Life here is deeply intertwined with the sea, with picturesque fishing villages such as Jonesport, and harbors dedicated to the traditions of lobstering, clamming, and boat building. The area, which gets its name from sailors traveling “downwind” and east from Boston, is also famous for its vast wild blueberry barrens. Known for its remote beauty and resilient, independent spirit, Downeast offers a glimpse into a quieter, more authentic Maine, far from the bustling tourist centers of the south.  Rent Sea Duck Cottage and enjoy the peace and beauty of Downeast Maine or take part in several activities during the summer such as July 4th week, Blueberry Festival, weekend farmer’s market, local concerts and so much more.
