Bindy’s By the Sea

There’s something wonderfully old-fashioned about Bindy’s By the Sea — in the best possible way. This self-service shed in Jonesport operates daily, and what’s waiting inside will stop you in your tracks.

Pull open the refrigerator and you’ll find homemade desserts, fresh muffins, whoopie pies, baked goods, vegetables straight from the garden, biscuits, and more — all made with the kind of love you just can’t find at a grocery store.

It’s the sort of place that makes you smile, grab a whoopie pie, leave your money (Venmo Qcode – easy to use), and feel good about the world.

A perfect mid-morning stop or a sweet treat to bring back to the cottage.

Keep your eyes open as you drive down Main Street— blink and you might miss it, but you’ll be glad you didn’t.

Maine’s Authentic Ventures: Get on the Water the Real Way

If you want to understand what Jonesport is truly about, you need to get out on the water — and there’s no better way to do it than with Maverick and Gabrielle Beal aboard the Joyce Ellen. Maine’s Authentic Ventures offers private boat tours out of Jonesport that are about as far from a tourist trap as you can get.

The Joyce Ellen is a working family lobster boat with generations of history in these waters, and Captain Maverick brings all of that with him on every trip.

Choose from two experiences: The Lobster Way is a two-hour hands-on tour where you actually haul traps, read buoy strings, and measure the catch alongside the captain — not just watch someone else do it.

The Coastal Legacy Tour stretches to three hours and takes in the local history, wildlife, lighthouses, and the sweeping scenery of the Jonesport working harbor.

Tours are kept small — just up to six guests — and every guest goes home with a complimentary lobster.

It’s one of those experiences that stays with you long after you’ve left Maine.

Book ahead at mainesauthenticventures.com or call 207-598-6514.

Season runs April through September.

The Jonesport & Beals Garden Club — and the Garden Behind the Library

Tucked behind the Peabody Memorial Library in Jonesport is one of the area’s quietest pleasures: a garden tended with care by the Jonesport & Beals Garden Club.

The Peabody Library has served this community since 1915, and the garden out back reflects the same spirit of quiet dedication — a living, blooming project that the club has cultivated as a gift to the whole community.

Bring the kids, bring a coffee from La Laiterie or Moosabec Variety, and take a few minutes to appreciate what a handful of dedicated volunteers can grow.

Take what you want or pick your own, donations appreciated.

La Laiterie: A Little Bit of Brittany on Route 1

Nobody expected a Michelin-trained chef to land in Jonesboro, Maine — and that’s exactly what makes La Laiterie such a delight.

Opened in spring 2026 at 749 US-1, this French-inspired café brings Breton-style baking and classic French café fare to Downeast Maine in a way that feels completely unexpected and absolutely right.

Think buttery pastries, rich coffee, and the kind of unhurried morning that makes a Maine vacation feel complete.

La Laiterie has already developed a loyal following from locals and visitors alike — and for guests at Sea Duck Cottage, it’s an easy and very worthwhile detour.

Check their hours before you go, as they can vary by season.
